Kriostat Nitrogen Cair untuk Difraksi Neutron

Marsongkohadi & Anung Kuswono

Abstract. The design and construction of an all-metal liquid nitrogen cryostat for neutron diffraction experiments is described. The cryostat is made of stainless-steel and copper with 1 mm thick aluminum window. The liquid nitrogen container has a volume of eight liters, and is isolated from the surrounding atmosphere by a vacuum jacket, with a pressure of 2 x 10-4 torr. The mean evaporation rate of the liquid nitrogen is 1.3 liters per hour, whereas the cool down losses is two liters. The temperature of the sample is measured with a carbon resistor thermometer or a copper constantan thermocouple. A dipmeter is constructed of several carbon resistors. By filling the cryostat with fifteen liters of liquid nitrogen, the temperature of the sample is held constant 110K, for nine hours.
